On behalf of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the World Congress on Ultrasonics (WCU), I would like to invite you to participate in this joint meeting of the IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium and the WCU. This meeting will be the first for the WCU in the United States; its previous meetings were held in Berlin in 1995, Yokohama in 1997, and Copenhagen in 1999. The principal goal of the WCU is to facilitate the international dissemination of recent advances in ultrasonics, both in terms of its fundamental research and its practical applications. We are especially desirous that our Congresses can be a forum that is attractive to students and young scientists and engineers, and that long-lasting and productive interactions will be developed and fostered. We are pleased to meet jointly with the IEEE and encourage you to join us in this unique and historic opportunity to view ultrasonics from a global perspective.
