Guidelines for Poster Presentations
General:
- The poster boards in Vancouver are 4' h x 6' w (two poster boards are available for an invited talk).
- The boards will be numbered from 1 to 121. Poster boards 1-37 are located in the Bayshore Grand Ballroom Foyer and poster boards 38-121 are located in Stanley Park Ballroom Salon 1 & 2.
- The location of your poster is included in your session number. For example, the session number P1 J-6/88 means that the poster is the 6th poster in session J on the first day and that the poster will be located at poster board 88.
- A map showing the locations of the poster boards will be provided at the conference centre.
- Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of your poster session. If you wish, you may set up your poster on the morning of your session and leave it set up until the evening
- The poster sessions begin at 10:00 am and end at 11:30 am.
- Please introduce yourself to the Session Chair. If you have someone else defending your poster presentation, please have that person introduce themselves to the Session Chair. POSTER PRESENTATIONS THAT ARE NOT DEFENDED (MEANING THEY DO NOT HAVE SOMEONE KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THE CONTENT OF THE PRESENTATION PRESENT) WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE PROCEEDINGS.
Planning:
- Provide an Introduction (outline) and a summary or conclusion for your Poster paper Presentation.
- Be prepared to use your Poster paper Presentation as the basis to briefly explain the work described and to answer specific question from the viewers.
Visual Aids (Good Practice):
- The title of your poster paper should be done in block letters which are AT LEAST 8 to 10 cm (3 to 4 inches) high.
- All text must be easily readable from a distance of 1 to 2 meters. Make the lettering at least 1 cm high, smaller lettering will not be legible from a distance of 1 to 2 meters.
- All graphs and charts should be AT LEAST 25 X 30 cm (approximately 81/2 x 11 inches) or larger.
- It is a good idea to sequentially number your materials. This will indicate to the viewer a logical progression through your Poster Paper Presentation.
Presentation
- Simply posting the pages of your written version is NOT an effective Poster Paper Presentation.
- It is helpful to have copies of the written version of your paper available for those viewers who may want to study aspects of your work in more detail.
- Have your business cards available for those who may wish to contact you a later date.
- Bring along a tablet of blank paper that you may use for a discussion of technical details relating to your poster paper.
